The Poet on the Mantelpiece

The poet on the mantelpiece is Charles Causley, 1917-2003. We are in Bude for a few days, coinciding with the Bude Literary Festival. The splendid room is the Willoughby Gallery in the Castle Heritage Centre, and we were there to see Jim Causley, a Devon musician, who has put several of Charles’ poems to music. It is a terrific show.  Jim has a marvellous voice, and is an accomplished musician. He is a  relative of the poet. Charles’ former home in Launceston is owned by the Charles Causley Trust, and Jim’s CD of the musical version of the poems was recorded there. It is a delight.
