A hard day at the office. Not !

A simply glorious day 2 here on Corfu, taking pleasure in simple things…. The scenery, the weather , swimming on a deserted beach and lunch at an unprepossessing taverna… at first sight , but don’t judge a book by its cover!

We did a circular loop of about 8 miles on the Corfu Trail, very well signposted , from Asprokavos to Spartera and back. We walked up past the ruined monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary then down to Arkoudilas beach which we had all to ourselves , before climbing up with a stunning sea view of Paxos and the mainland.
Lunch at Bella Vista; how well named . The view was spectacular. There was no menu , run by an elderly gentleman and his wife, we just ate what we were given ! All was fresh and homemade- chicken souvlaki, & lamb chops from the barbecue oven; the most gorgeous Greek salad ( the lettuce pepper and cucumber home grown ) , rich homemade tzatziki with crusty bread. We said no to chips but the host insisted we try them as he’d grown the potatoes himself. I also had a glass of his homemade wine!
Finished with fruit and coffee- all for €35. The host was so charming , it was an all round lovely experience. Then a 2 mile stroll back to the hotel and a swim and rest before more eating at dinner! The Greek evening was great fun, we did indeed smash plates!
