A walk around Aros Mains

The weather led to us changing our plans today as the forecast was mainly for rain . We started with a coffee at Calgary and purchased some cake for later. Then we picked up some fish we’d ordered from Dougie’s Stores at Dervaig .
We’d never explored Aros Mains with its Thirteenth century Castle remains . Lots of bluebells and the smell was wonderful . We explored the edge of the castle but it’s walls looked very precarious. Historically, a Laird had invited Clan leaders to a meal aboard a ship moored offshore only for them to find themselves imprisoned around Scotland until they swore allegiance to Clan Stuart. Hard times ! Some red deer surprised us near the ruins -they seemed unbothered by us. A Mistletoe thrush was happily feeding in the grass .
We wandered down to the shore then had a car picnic at Loch na Geal . We were treated to a Shelduck wandering near the car and some meadow pipits feeding in the grass.
The weather as predicted rolled past bringing spells of rain .
