Finchdale Priory

The start of a lovely weekend with ex-university friends.

D&D arrived on Friday night after driving down from Scotland and we picked up C at Durham station on sat morning. We went to Finchdale Priory just outside Durham for a bit of a wander round. It's one of those places which is really pretty but you never think to go to as a local. The ruined abbey sits right beside the river Wear, which is banked by beautiful mature trees. Everything looked fresh and sparkly in the bright sunlight an breeze.
after a stroll we popped back for tortilla wraps filled with all sorts of stuff then went out for a bit more fresh air to explore the Penshaw Monument. Unfortunately a "passing shower" rather spoiled that experience as we bravely marched up the hill to the parthenon thing and the view from the top w3asn't much to write home about (more of a "you can normally see the sea from here" situation). So we retired to a nearby garden centre for a potter.

I made a yummy risotto in the evening (butternut squash and rocket) and a chocolate cherry trifle.. It all disappeared :-)
