Sgwarnog: In the Field

Sweeper

Like much else, the Chimney Sweeper moths seem to have emerged a couple of weeks earlier than usual. They are a good indicator of the rich flora of unimproved meadows, with Pignut being their food plant. I’m lucky to have several colonies locally, and will find scores at a time as I wander through the grass. They are tricky to stalk for a photo though, so although I know I’ll see plenty more over the next month or so, I’ll share this one while the going is good.
