A Day of Mixed Activities and Weather

Once again the rain returned this morning but we were optimistic the weather would improve later . After a slow start, we stopped for coffee at Calgary then visited a new venture on the island ‘The Piece Box’ - a takeaway hut in Dervaig run by a couple - he fishes and she bakes . A ‘piece’ is a picnic you can enjoy anywhere . Mary the owner and baker we discovered came from Minehead originally and settled on Mull when she met her husband, a fisherman . We purchased lobster rolls which we ate at Lochbuie - they were delicious. We wish we’d discovered them earlier in the holiday!

The rain came over in waves but we braved a two hour bike ride again along to Loch Spelve . The wind and gusts were so strong we had to use all the electric assistance possible on the way back ! It was bitterly cold and some of the gusts were over 30 mph apparently! I was relieved to get back to the car as it was quite scary at times but invigorating!:)

On the return home we drove down to Grass Point - well part of the way as the road grew narrower and narrower . This was where the original pier and connection to the Mainland was . Cattle would be driven along there . We decided to explore on bicycles another time !

All the yellow irises are beginning to bloom all over the island by the lochs and this one had a huge bee sheltering on it .

The deer was one of a few nibbling by the side of the road . It wasn’t bothered at all when we wound down the window and took this shot .
