Doggie Down Time

We encountered some “wild’ life on our easy 9 mile ride from Monteleone di Spoleto to Leonessa. The Maremma Sheepdog is very popular in the countryside and we often see them running free and keeping things in order. I don’t recall seeing a Maremma on a leash in the urban areas. They are an Italian breed of livestock guardian dog and are a hefty 30-45 kg and 65-73 cm high. According to Wikipedia they are intelligent, friendly, determined, dignified, alert and loyal. A great work dog, a great family dog and a great guard dog…although these guys were on break and didn’t bother to get up as we cycled past. Well, the captain dog from across the street did come barking after us, successfully chasing us on our way. Haha.
