Steeple Langford (Monday 23rd May 2022)

In June 2018 I met up with my brother the Spotlight Kid at Langford Lakes nature reserve (Wiltshire Wildlife Trust). We went on to Stonehenge the same day on that occasion.

For Monday we settled on the same destination to meet up for my birthday, as it lies between our two homes. We both bought picnics - mine came from Sam Widges in Calne who make the best baguettes it is possible to buy. We ate in a new covered outdoor dining area next to their cafe overlooking one of the lakes, watching the Canada geese coming in from another lake (in Extras) behind us, honking as they did so. There were plenty of swans but still no cygnets, though we did see a family of gadwalls. The path around the lake was lined with ragged robin, meadow buttercups and kingcups, campion, comfrey and many others.

Having concluded our tour and left the site we took a footpath opposite which led alongside the River Wylye, where I took this blip of cow parsley, and on past All Saints church to the village of Steeple Langford, from where we walked back down Duck Street to our vehicles.

I called at C's in Trowbridge on the way back and spent the evening with her and the cat Loki, brother of Thor, having birthday pizza and watching two episodes of The Walking Dead. I was in danger of falling asleep when I left to drive home, but the challenge of the torrential rain on the roads kept me alert.

With thanks to Miranda1008 for her Wild Flower Challenge.
