Rock Pile

I'm not really sure what it was about this pile of rocks on Spike's Walk that attracted me this morning, but I liked the colors in the rocks  and the persistent grasses which couldn't be reached by the mower.

The meadow has been mowed which makes it reasonably safe for Spike to walk there without grasses migrating into his ears. No guarantee about his nose since he has it to the ground a lot of the time. In fact, he reminds me a bit of a snorkeler. It is possible to swim around looking at all the wonders under the water and completely forget where one is. Coming up and looking around reveals a rapidly receding coastline. When Spike comes up, he puts his nose up and sniffs the air to try to figure out where he is, or where we are. We are, of course, there watching him, and when we call him he comes running, back ....in the real world again.

After two days of 100 degree weather, the fog and low clouds have come in and stayed all day. The temperature dropped about 30 degrees overnight. We decided to go for coffee to The Pharmacy where Trail House Barista Crystal now works. The extra shows some of the 'natural' decor that fills a lot of the space, some of it under the very high ceiling which isn't useful for anything else, and some of it on the very large table next to the counter. The only seating is stools at a zig-zagging counter (which does make face to face conversation easier) and a few chairs an a picnic table on the lawn in front. It was too cold for the lawn, so we left Spike in the car and went inside.

Crystal was there, her usual warm and welcoming self, but the coffee was disappointing and the scone, while scone shaped, was flat and underdone. This odd space used to be an actual pharmacy and the owner of the restaurant has her own ideas about natural pharmaceuticals in food and tea. Her lunch salads and such are well reviewed by a lot of people, so perhaps we'll try it again sometime for lunch.

Blake is home from the neuruological veterinarians where they found no sign of a brain tumor or stroke. He's been prescribed antibiotics and antacids. He's quite a bit better than he was on Sunday when he seemed to be at death's door, but he's not his old self either.

I've decided to finish Dana's Christmas present which got derailed when I started working on Ruta's quilt....
