Marseille

What a day!
Finally having booked the tix way back last October for the finale of my son’s 21st birthday … the Champions Cup has arrived. It’s a gamble who will be in the final and perfectly it was Irish Leinster vs French La Rochelle ( N being Irish).
We woke early in Nice and walked back to the airport to catch the 7am bus to Marseille, easy peasy and we were there by 9.30 having caught up on zzzzs.

Had a wander and saw had a lovely picnic at the old port then n made our way to the Airbnb in good time and congratulated ourselves on such a perfect find. Except it wasn’t
Long story short the host said the apartment had burned down ( it hadn’t as we were sitting opposite it) and then Airbnb offered us a place 20km away!
Grrr however, good bless the phone and we had a lovely apartment round the corner in minutes and we shall be haranguing Airbnb for the balance.
Dumped bags. Quick shower then walked to the Orange Velodrome soaking up the amazing atmosphere which became all the bigger entering the stadium. Wow! La Rochelle has 75,000 inhabitants. Apparently 20,000 were here so one big party. Chanting, singing, flag waving, the rugby was almost secondary but great fun when the French team won.
Lots of sad Irish men on the way back. It still electric atmosphere. After a few Aperol and charcuterie we were pooped… 35,000 step day!
