Great Bernera Rocks!

There can be few finer starts to a day than looking out on a gorgeous Hebridean bay and spotting a Golden Eagle soaring over the headland a little way from you. The Raven mobbing him sadly pushed him the wrong way (though I'd imagine it was more of a hardship for the eagle to be fair).

With the sun still gracing us with its presence we headed for a past favourite, Bostadh beach on Great Bernera. The first year we came here we walked from Breacleit, about 3.5 miles away. Last year with Mel's recovering broken leg we just drove to the beach, but today was back to foot power along a stunningly rocky picturesque route. I went all landscape photographer today, with the sun breaking through the cloud in patches, lighting different parts of the scenery as the wind moved the cover. This backdrop is one of the reasons we just keep coming back.

So with it still cold and breezy, we passed a family having lunch. "Lovely day for it," I said, without irony. "Beautiful isn't it, we've been lucky with the weather," came the equally unironic reply. Dry, occasional sun, gorgeous scenery. Or as Mel put it, "Only people who really like the outdoors could say it was beautiful today. It's about 4 degrees and blowing a gale."
