Magpies

A pair of magpies have been nesting on a balcony across the road and today two (big) chicks fledged. The chicks have been practicing their flying skills on the rooftops. The adult (on the left) had just fed the chick on top of the aerial when I took this photo. I turned off my camera and went back inside when suddenly there was a terrrible screaming noise. One of the crows that lives on another balcony had tried to catch the chick, which had a lucky escape as its parents fought off the crow. I wish I had still had my camera ready  :-(
