Black Mound,Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, Cornwall

Tremenheere Garden is a couple of miles from Penzance with fantastic views of St Michael's Mount.  Before 1295 the land at Tremenheere was owned by the monks of St Michael's.  Around this time Michael De Tremenheere bought the land and for 600 years it carried that name.

In 1997, Penzance GP, Dr Neil Armstrong bought the sloping site from a local farmer and created  this 22 acre garden.  There's a strong structural planting scheme with a sub-tropical emphasis.  There are about 40 pieces of sculpture throughout the site.  "Black Mound" is by David Nash - it's a collection of charred oak shapes in a sculpted huddle.

We had a very nice Sunday lunch in the Tremenheere Kitchen post exploring.
