Highs and lows

Well the day started very early and dramatically with Mx, who’d seemed to be over his cold from earlier in the week, waking screaming with a fever about 5am. He was hallucinating that he had bugs crawling all over him and he could really see them…really horrible (but not uncommon with a fever apparently although not something I’d seen before). He was inconsolable and so hot…we managed to get him to take some calpol and then Mt took him out for a walk to get away from the bugs he could see on the floor.
Once they got back (thank goodness for the light mornings!) he was back to normal although wide awake so he had some quiet time with a film whilst Mt caught up on some sleep.
Naturally enough it took us a while to get going properly and, since it was such a stunningly gorgeous blue sky day with warm sunshine we headed to Porty beach for some running in the water fun. They had a brilliant time for about half an hour (although, mental note, better not to go at low tide as there are too many bits of the beach they don’t like, with seaweed etc), but then AR had a meltdown about the clothes we’d taken for her to change into. No doubt all down to tiredness after the Lion King, which we’d expected, but she really was determined to stay cold and wet rather than wear the ‘wrong’ clothes. Hey ho! Mx was working up to a meltdown too, but clearly thought we could only handle one at a time so wised up and sat nicely eating his ice cream!
Bumped into hazelh and mrhazelh on their tandem which normally would have interested the weans but not today in these moods!
Home and I nipped to town to get H’s birthday present for them to take back with them whilst Mt started packing up. I was going to take them to the Meadows festival but they were too fragile so instead made them up a picnic for the car and we packed them up and dropped round to V’s to collect their car and leave mine.
Having spent too much of today indoors I decided to walk home and enjoyed a lovely hour on the paths back, with stunning sunshine, greenery and a chance to listen to some more of Young Mungo which I’m enjoying. Also good to get the steps in…9 miles today!
Spent a quiet evening catching up on some recorded TV and watching a few bits of the jubilee concert. Wonder if Princess Charlotte will be in a bad mood tomorrow after her late night tonight?!
It’s been so lovely having them up here though, and we’ve done lots of fun things. The house is going to feel very quiet without them!
