Bankstown Sports Club DD

A train excursion to Bankstown, a suburb with a large Vietnamese population. We explored the shops, arcades and laneways, watched a cultural festival in the local park, had a soup with tofu, tomato and blood jelly, then made our way to Bankstown Sports - a huge club with over 700 poker machines, its own brewery, rooftop bars, rainforest lounges, a faux European piazza (pictured) and a hotel.

Other highlights were a memorial to the hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese boat people who lost their lives at sea, a photographic display commemorating South Vietnamese generals and, weirdly, a Telstra museum in a 1960s prefab.

There were women dressed in pirate costumes on the train back.

Hope you’re having an enjoyable Sunday.
