On Oakworth Platform

As the smoke curls lazily from the waiting room chimney and the warm sun beats down on the deserted platform, we wait for the next steam train at Oakworth station, idly dreaming of a time when life was slower, less stressful. Off camera, the station cat is curled up contentedly on the ticket office window ledge, dozing in the welcome warmth, while the station master's dog establishes his superiority by taking up residence on his master's chair behind the counter. All is calm. All is well in this quiet, well-ordered world of yesteryear.
Oakworth Station is one of the delightful little wayside stations on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway line, a rail preservation society local to Keighley. It was heavily featured in the 1970 film 'The Railway Children', based on the book of the same name by E. Nesbitt, and is one of my absolute favourite places to be.
