2718. Happy Pride Month!

This is my friend who works for a mobile phone network and when I popped in to see her this morning she said she was putting up this bunting to celebrate Pride Month.

Apparently the first Gay Pride Rally was organised in London on 1st July 1972 which was chosen as the closest Saturday to the anniversary of the Stonewall riots in 1969.

In the 1990’s the World Health Organisation de-classified same-sex attraction as a mental illness. In the UK, the age of consent was lowered from 21 to 18 years and the trans youth charity “Mermaids” was formed. 1997 also saw two openly gay MP’s elected.
