Inspiration!

It's been a tiring few days, got the last of the throwing trimmed and handled, the bisque kiln loaded and on...for this cycle anyway, much more to come.....and now for some r and r!

I was drinking wine out of one of my new cups when i got the inspiration for my next painting....a landscape using this part of the wine cup as a bit of a guide.  I don't intend to copy this or even try to, but to use it as a basis for a painting, the color scheme the composition etc.
Kinda exciting to make such a direct connection.   Others have said they see a connection between my ceramics and my paintings....and i do too, but this was so direct!

I also want to make note that our dear friend Jim O'Brien passed away yesterday, at the age of 85.   Jim was an amazing Irish man, a doctor, dentist and psychiatrist.....in this little village of Baddeck, for probably about close to 50 years.   Not sure on the dates etc., but he was a well renowned and very well loved dr. ......he was also our poker playing partner!   He was a man with a sharp wit, always had a great story or two to tell and came up to the pottery often to purchase cups etc.   Last fall Jim, his wife Heather (also a very wonderful character) their daughter Minga and her partner Chris... arrived at the pottery around 5pm one evening....i yelled out the door to Terry...."The O'Brien's are here....get the wine!!!"   and we had very lovely impromptu little wine and cheese.  I feel very sad to know that he has gone....and also that strange feeling of confusion....what, Jim is no longer here!!!!
