In Winterswijk

Today we visited the town where painter Piet Mondriaan grew up. Around 1865 he wandered in the narrow streets in this area to paint the houses. Most of the area is gone, but this is a nice remainder.

We visited the Mondriaan museum. An exhibition about his early work and the work of his Dutch contemporaries. Simon Maris as well as his father Willem Maris and his uncles Matthijs and Jacob Maris.

Piet Mondriaan got famous for his later work with lines around patches of white, yellow and red. Which you're reminded of while wandering the streets of Winterswijk.
