Gambel's quail

We crossed from new Mexico into Arizona today and arrived at Portal Peak Lodge, a small place in the Chiricahua mountains that caters mainly for birders. They come from all over to see some of the special birds that occur in the US only in this corner of the state. A short walk from the lodge brought us to this garden where a sign carved over the gate says 'birders welcome', and where the wild birds run about amongst his garden ornaments and plant pots.
