Pyramid Orchid

Two years ago the Common Spotted leaved Orchid suddenly appeared in the lawn, fortunately in flower so I was able to identify it when mowing the grass (it hasn't been seen since).  This year in a shady corner of the garden two Pyramid orchids suddenly decided to show themselves.  I had run the mower over their first large leaves but luckily after that they had grown quickly thus avoiding the blades.  This area has soil with lime which  attracts these  plants and there are a number of SSIs on smaller farms in the valley below the woods.  Many years ago one farmer very regrettably ploughed up one of his fields that was full of Green Winged Orchids. He was so fed up not being able to plant crops in it.  Now we have a conservation field above the village where several species can be found.
