Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Ythan Mouth

The River Ythan rises at the Wells of Ythan near the village of Ythanwells and flows south-eastwards through the towns of Fyvie, Methlick and Ellon before flowing into the North Sea at Newburgh on Ythan. The name is believed to have originated from the old Pictish word Eithin meaning gorse, an abundant plant in the river catchment.
