Meteor takes to the skies again

The historic Gloster Aircraft Company Meteor, the first allied jet fighter to see action in WW2. It was extensively used to tip the wings of V1 (Doodlebug) rockets to stop them hitting built up areas. The spitfires just didn't have the speed to catch the V1.

This one was Gate Guard at RAF Innsworth, Gloucester, for many years and then got shoved into a back corner when the ARRC (Allied Rapid Reaction Corp) took over the camp and replaced it with a 25lb artillery gun!

The Meteor is going to a very good home, it will be restored by the Jet Age Museum and be a major exhibit in the museum when it opens in Autumn of this year.

The RAF Kindly provided a Chinook helicopter to airlift the Meteor from Imjin Barracks (fka RAF Innsworth) across Brickhampton Golf Course, over the Cheltenham Road to Gloucestershire (Staverton) Airport where the museum is located.
