Getting the sparkle back

Northern marsh orchid

This isn't a rare orchid, but there's something special about orchids IMHO. Seen on a visit to Craigmillar Castle Park with K, the manager of Inch Park Community Centre when J the tutor for the nature walks was off sick. Sadly the orchids in this park are not doing as well this year as the council in its wisdom has done some scarifying where they grow, making the soil drier, and that won't be good for the orchids longer term either. Common spotted orchids also grow there, but they aren't in full flower yet. I had never been to the park, or Craigmillar Castle, come to that, although the castle will need to wait for another time. I was very impressed by the park, with several different habitats in close proximity, and some splendid views. I've got an extra of a peacock butterfly, again, not rare at all, but still lovely.
