Wildlife preservation

Free entry weekend at National Trust always seems to mean a visit to Attingham Park just out of town (see also the blip from exactly a year ago), a large stately home with many interesting architectural features and carefully restored decor, any of which could make for a good blipfoto entry, but I couldn't resist the collection of stuffed birds, which I found fascinating, creepy and sad all at the same time. I imagine that in the days before colour photography, or indeed any photography come to that, perhaps it seemed to make sense to have a collection of stuffed specimens as a kind of deluxe reference guide but I suspect really it was a chance for the owners to show off about how well travelled and well heeled they were.
