Tecklenburg, Germany

No work, no office today.
Today is about photography!

Together with Richard I went to Germany, the Teutoburgerwald, in the area of the beautiful village of Tecklenburg.
Because this month we have the longest days of the year, we decided to skip the sunrise. Therefore we left Delfzijl at 06.45 am and after a 2 hour drive, and a coffee break halfway, we arrived in Tecklenburg around 10.00 am already. We were amazed by the environment and the atmosphere, it felt as if we were on holiday. Super!
The weather was great and we started with exploring the 'Hexenpfad' (the witch path) that lead us through the old towncentre and the surrounding woodland. Coffee and Sachertorte afterwards on the terrace on the town square.

We then drove up to the Canyon, an area of excavated rocks with a beautiful canal/river at the bottom of the rocks with sparkling blue/green water. We couldn't get at the waterlevel, and stood approximately 40/50 meters higher instead. We let our drones do the job for us, and took a few images from the sky.
We skipped lunch (we both hadn't completely processed our Sachertorte just yet) and went to yet another Canyon on our way to real woodland and 'mountains', called Das Bocketal.
Same drone procedure at this 2nd Canyon.

Once in the woodlands of das Bocketal, we started a, what would turn out to be a 4 kilometer hike, during which we covered 152 altimeters as well. Every now and then we stopped for some photography. Great fun.

We saw the Eisenquelle, a small river source, were very ferreous water came out of the rocks, turning the whole area into a rusty colour. Because the soil was very moist and muddy we couldn't find a good spot for our tripods. An iphone pic was all we made there. Next we bumped into some impressive trees, with even more impressive  root systems. That's where I captured this photo. You can even see here the rusty colour of the soil.

We walked on and soon the climbing started. We were on our way to the Dreikaiserstuhl (the Throne of the Three Emperors). A huge rock formation in three parts on the top of the mountain.
Once there we had beautiful views of the surrounding Tecklenburger land.
With the help of Google Maps and my watch we discovered a steep descending path back to the car. Several photostops on the way back there.

By then it was almost time for dinner. We went back to Tecklenburg, to our parking spot at P2 for which we bought a € 4,- dayticket in the morning, so why not use it to the max. Pizzeria Prosecco was what we aimed for. But, Tuesday turned out to be their Ruhetag, resting day. Luckily somebody pointed out Hotel Restaurant Drei Kronen to us, so that's were we went. After all, three crowns fitted very well with three thrones we saw earlier on, on the mountain.

Delicious dinner and an arguing Dutch couple, sitting next to us, who didn't realize we could understand every word they were saying was what followed. Bottom line: She wanted him to be nice for a change, mostly to Donnie.

Then we drove home again, with a short stop at the moors near Bargerveen for a sunset photo. But the sky didn't look too promising, we were there 90 minutes before sunset, and tired too. We didn't have the energy anymore to wait for the light. Our lights were out already. Richard dropped me off at home at exactly 21.30 hours. By the time the sunset was there, I slept already.

We had just a perfect day!
We already set the date for our next photography day: September 28, 2022.
