Homecoming

Goodbye Anstruther at 05:59 on the dot, into a flat calm sea. And soon the sun was out and it was real shorts and t-shirt weather. And sunglasses, obvs. We ghosted close in along the coast of Fife, right into Largo Bay and along to Buckhaven where Rog grew up. At that point he dialled up his 99-year-old Dad for a video call to let him see the town from the sea. At West Wemyss we got even closer. That was too close but I’ll draw a veil over that.
And then across the Forth, sails raised to catch the merest breeze, and tarr-raaa! Into the harbour and onto the pontoon where our lasses were waiting.
Well, what a great trip it’s been since I left this very harbour on 9th May last year. Seventy six days sailing, logging up 1,485 nautical miles* with some terrific places visited. Sanda, Canna and Coll all really stand out. Huge thanks to cap’n Bob for his assistance last year, and to all who valiantly crewed - Rog, SW, AJ, F, MrT, McC the elder, JN, IG, young K, and of course, the SK with whom I had the best sail of my lifetime - seven days round the Small Isles.
After all that, it was just great to sit in the back garden and crack open a small bottle and relax. Everything else can wait till tomorrow.
