Ladder hills - first part ... climb the ladder

Up above Chapeltown are a series of 800m rounded hills called the 'Ladder hills'. Càrn Mòr is the Corbett that tops them at 804m. Spectacular views of Glenlivet, the Northern Caringorms (Ben Avon) and Lochnagar to the south. The rounded top is a carpet of heather and berries - particularly blaeberry and flowering cloudberries (see extra). We have never seen so many - carpets of impossible dayglo green. May be worth coming back here in the autumn.

But today it is the 14.5km circuit along the top and back down past the old College of Scalan (a secret, hidden 18th C. Catholic seminary)
