Holy Island Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne was the name given to the island by the Anglo Saxons that first settled there. St Aidan built the 1st monastery in 635AD. St Cuthbert later received a stunning blow when the Vikings attacked in 793. Durham monks died as matyrs in the pagan attack and as a result Lindisfarne was renamed the Holy Island. The island is a pilgrimage for individuals as well as large groups.
The Island itself can only be accesses at certain time of the day via a causeway. If the tide is there is no access.
We arrived here mid afternoon but only got to spend and hour on the island which was a little disappointing as we didnt really get to do very much, however it has wetted my appetite for the place and at some point would like to visit for a holiday.
The coach got us back home safe and well after 8pm so we had to good full days and I am absolutely bushed.
I have back blipped yesterdays and also Fridays blips if anyone would care to peruse.
