More Poppies

It was such a lovely morning we decided on a walk on the Yorkshire Wolds an area of chalk not far from home. We thought we would combine Wharram Percy ( a lost medieval village ) with a walk along the old railway line to an old quarry which attracts butterflies. As we left the car park I couldn’t resist these Poppies at the edge of the field.

When I taught at Norton ( near Malton ) as a newly qualified teacher teams of archaeologists used to camp here over the summer to excavate the remains. The church although ruined is impressive and the old farmhouse was where the finds were assessed.

Not as many butterflies about in the quarry but perhaps a little early for some of the species such as the Marbled White.

The car park had only one car in when we left. As we arrived back it was practically full. Home for lunch and a quiet afternoon.
