Auchtermuchty Town House

This evening we visited Auchtermuchty with friends for a meal and as we came out of the restaurant the evening sun was lighting up the tower of the Town House otherwise known as the Tolbooth Tower in the High Street.
The clock has the date 1897 on the face and the tower is dated 1728.

Auchtermuchty with a name that seems to be difficult for some people to pronounce is known for having been the home of Jimmy Shand  the famous accordion player who achieved hit parade success with his version of the Bluebell Polka and the Proclaimers who lived there in their early years.

It was also used for filming the TV series based on AJ Cronin’s Dr Finlay with the Tannochbrae Tearoom also in the High Street.
