A bit of history tour

Andy and a few mates are cycling the Reivers Route (off-road) from west Cumbria to Newcastle, and I am acting as support. So here's my first bit of wandering and setting the scene - Burgh-by-Sands on the Solway coast, with a view of the Borderlands or Disputed Lands, where the Border Reivers terrorised the area from both sides of the  border in the 14th to16th centuries.  The Edward I monument was erected in 1685 on the site where Edward, the Hammer of the Scots, died in 1307 preparing to cross the Solway with his army to do battle with Robert the Bruce.
