Windmill 'Geesina', Groenekan

'Geesina' = 'GAY-sina'
'Groenekan' = 'GROO-nuh-kan'

In fact, the mill used to be called 'De Groene Kan' = 'the Green Canister'... or 'can', 'vessel', 'jug', anything that will hold liquid.  It was changed to 'Geesina' in 1941, after the wife of the previous owner.

At the foot of the Geesina is a little café, open only on very select occasions.  The windmill itself was brought to a permanent standstill late last year after a century of off-and-on repairs which somehow could not address its seemingly endless issues -- the vanes, the rods, the turning mechanism, and so on, and with the rising cost of materials, it was deemed more prudent to simply let things be.  In short, a sad state of affairs and deteriorating conditions.  I would not like to hear that it has been torn down, and perhaps it won't be, but it doesn't have much of a future right now.  Built in 1843 or thereabouts, so not even 200 years old.

It was not easy to take a frontal shot as it was facing away from the road, and there was absolutely no space at the back even for a close-up, so I walked back to the road and turned right and walked further till I spotted a path overgrown with weeds and fenced off.  There was no 'Off Limits' sign anywhere, so I just slipped through the bars and walked to a spot almost near the fields.  I would have found it a pity not to have been able to make a panoramic shot as there were no tall buildings in the area.

A hot day!  There's pressure building up in the west and thunderstorms have been predicted starting Sunday.  We need whatever water it will bring.  In the meantime, the usuals at home.  No live bridge at Sweed's place tonight as Lavinia couldn't make it..

Thank you all for visiting and for the stars!
