Brother Ben’s Birthday .

June 13th , my youngest but one brothers birthday. The older 4 reminisced about his birth although only my sister and I were old enough to remember. We thought that the midwife had brought him in in her black bag , we hung around outside the bedroom door as mum gave birth desperate to meet him . We couldn’t understand what was taking so long .
Today we took another land train ride up into the mountains, accompanied by a guide , it was fascinating.
Two nights earlier we had eaten in a restaurant at Elounda and got very friendly , on address swapping terms , with the owner . They knew Victoria Hislop well ( Author of The Island ) and could tell us a bit about the background. We were made so incredibly welcome , we couldn’t get over it , especially with the embarrassment of Brexit and Boris as our PM . Everyone we met on the island was genuine friendly and also seemed to have their own close connections with Britain .
We booked a birthday meal at their other restaurant in Placa ( for those who have read the book it’s where the supplies for Spinalonga were ferried from )and the lady we had become friendly with made Ben a cake as her gift .
He loves snorkelling so we managed to find a suitable photo of him for the cake . Such a generous gesture .
