Bluejacket

aka Ohio Spiderwort, Tradescantia ohiensis

The winds continued to blow hard today, with warnings not to go on Lake Erie with expected waves of up to ten feet.  I hiked with Russ M in very hilly Brecksville Reservation, 30 miles south of the lake. We met lots of folks on the trails and helped 3 couples who were lost.  Best of all, I petted quite a few dogs and passed some horses on the bridle trail.

A close-up with better detail is in the extra.  The color is like the main photo, but is distorted in the extra.

The flowers above are part of a prairie restoration near the nature center.  It was a sea of blue and green, blowing in the wind with tall grasses. With temperatures in the mid-sixties, it was a welcome change from the heat behind and ahead of us.  Just perfect for hiking in long sleeved t-shirts.  We also visited the historic nature center which has been renovated to its original glory, with some of the most beautiful wooden carvings adorning the building inside and out.
