Captain’s test

To be able to go out in a boat outside the coaching hours you have to pass the Captain’s test. Amongst other things, the hardest is the capsize drill. I decided to do mine this morning. I went out in the single racing scull (the picture is a double) to the centre of the channel then flipped the boat. Reid was on hand with the safety boat and providing encouragement. It eventually took seven attempts over about 30 minutes. The video makes it look easy, not the same with a larger middle aged man on a narrower boat.

A well deserved pint at 8am then breakfast. Out on the boat with our friends (extra) in the afternoon, then home to slump in front of Harry Potter with a pizza.
