Bravo Nadine!

Our lovely long-term post lady retired a couple of months ago, and today a reception was held for her. She's very popular, so there was a great turnout. It's largely thanks to our mayor and her that we still have a proper post office (and not an "agency") and that we were part of a small pilot scheme whereby she staffs the post office for a couple of hours each morning and then goes out on her electric scooter to deliver the post. This works so much better than having the jobs done by two separate people, as they used to be. She knows everyone, so it's easy to make arrangements for picking up parcels or leaving them with neighbours. Anyway, her replacement seems very nice.

The celebration merged into the village social club's Fête de la Musique, also well attended. See extra for the ambiance later that evening. It was a wrap at 12:30. After a couple of days of intense socialising I need a rest on my own now!

Weather report: the temperature hit 41C on Friday afternoon. Even the wind was like standing in front of a hairdryer. But overnight the wind changed  and the temperature dropped by at least ten degrees, so conditions were perfect for an evening outdoors.
