Scotton Mill on the River Nidd

Our Sunday walk took us in an easterly direction along the Nidd Gorge from Bilton Hall. This is the old flax mill at Scotton which was erected in 1798 and operated until 1851. It is now a private residence.
About 5 years ago, the weir was breached and the river no longer flows across it. There is a photo of the weir before this happened here.

Further along the river is the impressive viaduct which once carried the railway from Harrogate towards Ripon and Thirsk - see today's extra photo. It is now open as a cycle and pedestrian path.
