Cole Mere & Save The Children

A beautiful warm day here in Cheshire. A trip to Cole Mere where we walked around the lake. Lovely and shaded in parts which was very welcome as it was hot.

We then had a trip to a small town called Ellesmere in Shropshire where we saw this statue of a young boy. The statue is called Refuge and is meant to represent children displaced by war.
Two sisters from Ellesmere (Eglantyne Jebb and Dorothy Buxton) started Save The Children more than 100 years ago in order to supply food and medical supplies to children in Germany and the rest of Europe at the end of the First World War. What amazing women and I am sad to say that I had never heard of them before.
