The worm hunter

Under a devastatingly beautiful winter sky, we spotted a worm hunter on our morning walk.

Catching sand worms is a mysterious process involving trailing a bit of fish meat in the water’s edge as waves wash in and out; then looking for worms popping their head up in response to the scent. Once spotted the worm must be rapidly dug out by hand before it disappears back under the surface.

Some old hands can source enough worms for a fishing session in a few minutes, less experienced fellas seem to take hours.
