Tahunanui...

………………………………Beach, Nelson, NZ

It has rained all day and not a single star could be seen in the sky. I wanted my blip to be a photo of a sparkly universe, as today, Matariki is celebrated for the first time as a national public holiday in New Zealand.

Matariki is the Māori name used to describe the entire star cluster also known as Pleiades.
Matariki is a period of weeks, not just one day. It is also known as the Māori New Year and takes place from around late May to early July, with dates varying every year.

Thank you for the lovely response to yesterday’s silvery light. I really appreciate the lovely comments, stars and hearts.
Today’s blip was actually taken yesterday, at the same place and time as yesterday's Haulashore Island - one was taken looking into the sunlight!
