More Mottlecah

Thanks for the interest in my blip yesterday of Mottlecah, Eucalyptus macrocarpa. I revisited the WA Botanic Garden today and photographed more Mottlecah flowers. This photo show the emerging flower, with the cap intact (like yesterday's photo), plus a couple of fully emerged flowers after the cap is discarded.

Incidentally, this cap is the reason the plant has the botanic name eucalyptus. The Latin word means well-covered, which refers to the cap covering the emerging flower.

Some more photos from Kings Park Botanic Garden this week are in a web album. I have added captions, but accessing them seems to vary with the browser used.

We leave Perth tomorrow and head north to Jurien Bay for a few days. The main attraction there for us is Lesueur National Park and, hopefully, more delights of western flora.
