Arctic Tern in vicious mood

We left Anstruther harbour at 10am …… we were suitably clad for the sail but I don’t think anyone was prepared for the sea conditions. Both the outward and homeward journeys were the closest I have ever been to a thrill ride at a theme park.

Although bright and sunny it was very windy and photography was just a little tricky.

Our first challenge on May Isle was walk up from the boat through the Arctic Terns nesting site. The terms will dive bomb you so it’s important to hold something above your head because they will target the highest object.

Plenty of puffins but not always as close as we would like. Visitors are not allowed to stray from the marked paths in case we accidentally step on a burrow and end up with a foot on top of a puffling.

A great, if rather turbulent day.
