A mouthful of sand eels

Our ‘big’ day out to The May Isle ….. the journey from Anstruther was quite eventful as the skipper described the sea as confused …. it crashed against the boat from both sides and from the front. Never before have I seen so many blue bags being handed out ….. nuff said!

On the island it was great if a bit windy. The puffins ever disappoint as they stand, still as statues, hoping that the visitors will not spot them heading for their burrows.

There are plenty of other sea birds but apart from the puffins the other most memorable birds are the Arctic Terns who are so protective of their nests that they will dive bomb you from above. A peck of the head can be quite sore so we are advised to wear a hat or hold something over our heads while we walk up through the nesting site which is just beside the landing stage for the boat.
