The river Gartempe at Saulgé

The weather warmed up today and we bought some bread, cheese and ham and had a picnic lunch here at Saulgé on the banks of the river Gartempe. A local guy turned up with his lovely 13 year old Airedale Terrier and engaged us in conversation - good for brushing up our French. He was from Marseilles but had moved to Saulgé 20 years ago. Over the river we watched swallows and martins swooping for insects and the more calculated food collecting missions of the spotted flycatchers.
