In contrast, choosing the subject of today's photograph was no challenge at all. What better "blue" at this time of year than the summer sky in all its endless majesty?

Knowing that I didn't have to search for my photograph then freed up my mind for the rest of the walk to observe the sky: the size and weight of it, the myriad different blues, the way swatches of it peek between trees in woodland, the change as you step out from tree cover and back under the open sky, the way it colours the water and the ground, the shapes of the clouds, the thought that - if gravity somehow stopped working - we would just drift up and up and drown in the blueness...
