Gold Hill

Remember the Hovis advert on television?

Today I drove to Shaftesbury to meet up with an old Aussie friend.  Her parents lived here and we met at college in Weymouth before sharing a flat in London and then working in Cape Town for a year.  On our return she travelled overland to Australia at the time when one could go through countries that are now closed to general tourism and stayed there ever since.  F now has an Australian family and visits when ever she can.  We enjoyed a meal at The Salt Cellar at the top of Gold Hill  and had a good catch-up.

Shaftesbury is the only hilltop town in Dorset and founded by King Alfred the Great in 880AD.  Over the centuries it prospered with the wool trade.
There are many far reaching views of the surrounding countryside.
