Drains again

One of the obvious impacts of global warming is the increased rainfall we are experiencing in the West of Scotland.

Yesterday we had over 40 mm of rain in a single day, for the fourth time this year.   But the increased  regularity of heavy falls short of that is also clear.    The winter was very wet and after a slightly dry early spring, it has been a sodden (and windy) late spring and summer.

One result of that is that old land drainage can become inadequate .   Last year we had to renew some such drainage at the front of the house and today we started on the process of renewing a bit at the back, where Cathleen has her polytunnel , fruit cages  and orchard

This bit has been particularly sodden at times in the last few months so I hope we will see a difference later in the year.
