The Duyfken

This is a replica of the original Dutch ship of that name which charted parts of the Australian coastline in 1606. It was apparently the first European ship to reach the land that we now know as Australia, and as such is an important but often overlooked part of our heritage.
It is good to see the Aboriginal flag flying proudly from her bowsprit.

We've been fortunate to spend the past 3 nights at the beautiful Langham hotel in Millers Point overlooking Darling Harbour which is home to the Maritime Museum and the Sydney Heritage Fleet - hence the passing parade of interesting vessels (see also blips on 27 and 28 June). We head home this afternoon having sorted out a little more of my mother-in-law's estate while in Sydney.
