Drift wood.

To be more accurate; drift tree - a fair sized tree on the beach. This is unusual debris for the West Sands. Blue skies and white clouds, and a warm afternoon. We walked the length of the beach, away from the activity of building stands and so on for the 150 Open, to the far end where we had the beach to ourselves.

There were one or two dead gannets washed up on the beach. It’s a consequence of the current avian flu crisis, which is killing thousands of birds. Scotland is home to 46% of world’s gannets. Our older son in Shetland reported the beach they wanted to walk on had closed (a newly introduced bio security measure). They’d made two ferry trips too to reach the remote location. Younger son under blue skies, and 35c.
